Hong Kong Digital Game Development Competition 2010

2010/09/14
Organizers:

point Content:

Digital games are becoming an important part of teenagers’ life. Yet most of them have only experienced the playing part and not the design and development process. Through the game design and development process, students have to observe, collect and organize their thoughts, analyze data, design and create graphics and animation, coding, and put together all these different parts to complete a game. Students can discover a new way of learning and try to express themselves from the perspective of a digital game designer rather than a player. Students can also develop logical thinking, critical thinking and problem solving skills. These are essentially all the basic skills that every teenager needs in the 21st century. It also provides a good opportunity to strengthen the interactions between the digital game industry, educationists and the general public which will enable the transfer and exchange of knowledge and expertise.

point Theme:

“Smart life, Smart city, Smart Hong Kong
China will soon be holding the world exposition 2010 in Shanghai and Hong Kong has proudly been nominated as one of the world’s Urban Best Practice Area in developing intelligent systems.

Being a global city where east meets west, Hong Kong’s intelligent technology simply makes everyone’s life easier. Our intelligent system is being applied into the areas of our transportation, our food, our household and even our clothes. It is deeply benefiting our society. Digital games are one of the local fast-growing intelligent technologies; they are found all over our city and help shaping a creative and energetic Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Digital Game-based Learning Association, Hong Kong Cyberport and Pak Kau College, together with over 30 co-organizers and supporting organizations, are organizing the Hong Kong Digital Game Development Competition 2010. With the theme “Smart life, Smart city, Smart Hong Kong”, we encourage people from different aspects of the society to, through digital games, with innovative and human-oriented concepts, express their creativity in a rational and harmonious way. This is to unfold Hong Kong’s animated character, to share intelligent technology among people from different levels in the society and most importantly, to realize the goal of being “city of China, metropolitan of the world”.
